Tour Description
This full
day tour starts with a visit to the tree lined Av de Liberdade with its small
gardens full of poplar, limes and nettle trees, imposing historical buildings,
fountains and statues. Next you will discover Neo Manueline Railway Station and
the cobbled stoned Praca Rossio with its D. Maria 19th Century
Theatre and the Dominican
Church before making your
way to the Alfama the old city quarter with its steep twisting narrow passageways.
There’s a break for lunch which can either be free time or we can organise a
delicious 3 course lunch with drinks in a local restaurant.
In the
afternoon you make your way along the banks of the river Tagus passing
underneath the suspension bridge 25 Abril stopping at the St. Vincent’s Castle
or more typically known as the Torre de Belem here your guide will explain
the history of this fascinating historical building. A short distance away
you will visit the Monument of Discoveries with its outstanding Mapa – Mundi. The
tour finishes at the Jeronimos Monastery (UNESCO world heritage site). Closed
on Mondays alternative itinerary and monuments will be organised.
